CINEMATOGRAFO
SANGIOVANNESE
At the heart of this journey through time is the extraordinary generosity of our local community. Thanks to the many families who opened up their homes and shared their memories, we have gathered a priceless treasure trove of vintage photographs. Each image—once safeguarding long-forgotten faces, gestures, and landscapes—has undergone meticulous digital restoration to heal the marks left by time. But we didn’t stop there: we chose to breathe new life into these images through modern animation techniques, transforming static photographs into a dynamic, fluid, and deeply immersive narrative.
We chose the name Cinematografo to evoke the magic of early black-and-white screenings, which never failed to captivate and move audiences. The core purpose of this project is to recall and honor our agricultural roots. As these images come to life, we want to celebrate the hard work and dignity of those who labored in the fields, the ancient wisdom of the winemakers who shaped our surrounding hills, and the social life, traditions, and daily routines of yesteryear. It is a tribute to the rural culture that forged our values and our character.
Cinematografo is more than a nostalgic archive; it is a mirror in which our entire community can see and rediscover itself. It is an invitation to older generations to remember, and to the youth to discover where they come from—understanding that our present is deeply rooted in the sacrifices and beauty of the past. We invite you to be moved by this visual journey, joining us as keepers of a history that belongs to us all.
